West Hartford is rich in history and new beginnings. While many of West Hartford's points of interests are found along North and South Main Street, visitors will discover wonderful shops and sites in some unique pockets of town.
On our eastern border you'll find the world-renown Elizabeth Park rose gardens in full bloom in June and thousands of tulips and daffodils in March and April. In the northwest corner, get back to nature by hiking the trails at the MDC reservoirs or visiting the demonstration farm at Westmoor Park.
In the central areas of town, you'll discover the birthplace of Noah Webster, the award-winning Rockledge Golf Club, the The Children's Museum, the Connecticut Veterans Memorial and the Park Road Playhouse.
West Hartford Center has been the community's hub since the late 1600s. The unhurried atmosphere encourages you to park and walk along the tree-lined, brick sidewalks and stop by the fine specialty shops, restaurants, coffee shops and one-of-a-kind boutiques. The variety of the 140 shops is world class, including toys, art galleries, book shops, a doggy bakery, jewelry stores, distinctive gift shops, home furnishings, and upscale clothing stores with the latest fashions.
In the southern end of town, visit the historic Sarah Whitman Hooker House, a carefully restored early 18th century mansion house, the Art League Galleries, our indoor ice skating rink and 9-hole golf course and the Elmwood Center shopping district.
West Hartford is fortunate to have three higher-learning institutions. The University of Hartford, St. Joseph College and the University of Connecticut offer concerts, art galleries, plays, museums and sporting events all year long.
