Common Ordinances
Two Dogs per Household: West Hartford allows only two dogs per household. The keeping of three or more dogs over the age of 6 months constitutes a kennel, per Town Ordinance 177-2.
Removal of Dog Litter: It is the responsibility of a dog's owner, keeper or person in charge of the dog to immediately remove any and all feces deposited by the dog on any property or area other than that of the owner, keeper or person in charge.
Removal of Snow and Ice: Removal of snow and ice from premises where there is an established sidewalk is required by owners or occupants within 12 hours after the same shall have fallen or formed or within 12 hours after sunrise when the same shall have fallen or formed in the night season. Sidewalks should be sanded whenever ice cannot be removed. Violators are subject to a per day fine plus liability for the cost of clearing the sidewalk, if necessary, per Town Ordinance 155-8.
Tag Sales: Tag sales are permitted at a residential location if they are no more than three days in duration and are held no more than two times in a calendar year. A combination of plant sales and/or tag sales at any one residence shall not exceed two times in a calendar year. Signs for tag sales must not be posted on public utility poles, or on the grass belt. Signs can only be posted on the property where the tag sale is to be held.
Bicycles, Skateboards, Roller Skates & Blades: Bicycle, skateboard, roller skate/ blade riding is prohibited on all sidewalks in the West Hartford Center area. Skateboard or roller skate/ blade riding is prohibited anywhere on municipal property including parking lots.
