Health, Housing & Property Code Maintenance

The West Hartford-Bloomfield Health District provides program and support to protect the environment, workplaces, housing, food and water throughout the Town. The District is charged to enforce various local ordinances pertaining to matters concerning property maintenance, litter, food licensure, noise, group care facilities and rooming houses.

Additional, the District is charged to enforce a variety of Connecticut Statutes and regulations to assure conditions in which persons can be healthy, including food safety, on-site sewage disposal, public bathing places and the abatement of nuisances or threats to the public health.

The District monitors and enforces the new community Standards Ordinance adopted by the Town Council in FY 1998-99. The program performs awareness and education for a health community; proactive inspections; plan reviews and issuance of permits (when applicable); application review and issuance of local licenses, complaint investigations; illness investigations, and determination of corrective measure and enforcement actions.
