Child Seat Safety Checklist

** Children must be rear facing until they are a minimum of both one (1) year old and weigh twenty (20) pounds. Larger seats are available for children over the weight limit but under the age of one (1) year old. The seat they are placed in must be able to be installed rear facing.

** Does your child meet the manufacturer's recommended height and weight for the seat?

** Mail in your registration card for the seat. If you can't find it, call the 1-800 number on the rear of the car seat and register yourself as the owner (this will notify you of recall information).Check to be sure your seat has not been recalled call your car seat manufacturer's 1-800 number on your child seat or check www.recall.gov.

** Rear facing seats need to be reclined at a 45 degree angle. At the child's shoulder, the harness strap should be at or below shoulder level when the child is seated against the back of the child seat.

** Forward facing seats need to be placed in an upright position (90 degree angle). Child seat harness straps should not be twisted. At the child's shoulder, the harness strap should be at or above shoulder level when the child is seated against the back of the child seat.

** Harness straps should be snug - so you can't pinch a fold into the strap. Harness retainer clip should be threaded properly and placed at armpit level.

** Be sure the vehicle's seat belt system is used properly, many cars are different - READ the instructions.
