Police
Explorers
As
a new Explorer you will go through a recruit class which lasts
approximately 6 months. During this time you will learn about
post rules & regulations, be certified in first aid & CPR,
radio codes & procedures, cruiser configuration & equipment,
and the organizational structure of the West Hartford Police
Department. This class has several exams that must be passed
in order to become a fully certified Police Explorer with
our post.
Once
certified you will be considered a full explorer and will
move on to the advanced group where classes on police procedure
are taught. In these classes you will be given the opportunity
to put what you have learned to the test in controlled role
playing scenarios where you get to be the police officer and
handle the call.
The
post is run by Explorers who have passed promotional exams
to becomes Sergeants and the Post Captain.
Each
explorer is expected to follow the post's rules and act as
young adults.
Post
Activities: Weekly meetings are held on Thursday nights
from 7:00 PM - 8:30 PM. During this meeting there are classes,
demonstrations, guest speakers, and field trips. Social Activities
are also scheduled and the post will sponsor bowling trips,
pool parties, BBQ's, civic center events, etc. Explorers also
have the opportunity to participate in other events. These
include parades, traffic control at walk-a-thons, town events,
etc. Often times the police explorers are asked to assist
the PD with searches for evidence, traffic control at major
events, assisting during major storms, etc. All activities
are strictly voluntary.
Misc.
Info: Classes and training require that the explorers
pay attention and study what they are taught. The post places
a heavy emphasis on the explorers having self control and
discipline. Explorers must be willing and able to follow orders
and work with others. Now if you feel up to the challenge
and wish to have a fun outlet for your energies:
