Rechargeable batteries are State of Connecticut mandated recyclable items. Batteries that are Lithium-ion, Nickel - Cadmium, Nickel Metal Hydride and Sealed Lead Acid all must be recycled. Nickel-Cadmium (Ni-Cd) rechargeable batteries are the power
source in cordless phones and power tools.
- All of the above mentioned batteries may be recycled at an MDC Household Hazardous Waste Collection held each year on the first Saturday in October in West Hartford or at any neighborhing town's HazWaste collection.
- Non-rechargeable alkaline batteries manufactured after 1997 no longer contain mercury and can be disposed with your regular refuse. However, if you wish to recycle them you may do so at a MDC Household Hazardous Waste Collection.
- Car Batteries can be recycled at West Hartford's Recycling Center on Brixton Street.
- There are 13 drop-off sites within a five mile radius of the 06107 zip code area. Call 1-800-BATTERY or visit www.RBRC.org to located the closet drop-off center to you.
