Christmas Tree Collection

The annual Christmas tree collection by the Public Works Department will officially begins the first Monday in January (excluding the holiday) in the Monday refuse collection area. Residents in the Monday and Tuesday refuse collection areas should have their trees at the curb by 6 AM.

The collection will proceed from the Monday refuse collection area into the Tuesday refuse collection area, then into the Wednesday refuse collection area and so on until crews make two complete passes of the Town. The Christmas Tree Collection Line, the Town website and WHC-TV will report progress on the Christmas tree collection as it progresses into new refuse collection areas or whenever operations are suspended due to snow or adverse weather conditions.

Residents are reminded that the trees are recycled into wood chips. Therefore, please remove any plastic bags, ornaments, lights or stands from your tree before you place it at the curb. These items are not recyclable and present a safety hazard to both equipment and personnel. Trees contaminated with these items will not be collected. Please help us during snowstorms by removing your tree from the side of the road. Due to the weather during this time of the year, trees often blow into the road or into a neighbor’s property creating a nuisance and a potential safety concern. During snowstorms, the trees at the side of the road often become buried and frozen into the snow, making collection of them impossible.

Residents may also bring their trees to the town Recycling Center at 25 Brixton Center from Monday through Friday, between 7:30 AM and 4 PM. Unfortunately, there are no weekend hours at the Recycling Center until April.
