MDC HazWaste Collection
Saturday, September 27, 2008, 8 AM to 1 PM, at Public Works

How can I help?
Want to volunteer on a collection day? Just call the Public Works Department at 561-8100 and ask for the Household Hazardous Waste Coordinator.

What can't I bring?
Sorry, the MDC won't collect the following materials, but that doesn't mean you should keep them around the house. If you're not sure about an item, call the MDC at 860-278-3809. If the MDC doesn't take it, they'll help you dispose of it elsewhere.

  • Empty Containers of any Kind - can be disposed of in your regular trash
  • Ammunition - call your local Police Department
  • Asbestos - look under "Asbestos Removal Service" in the yellow pages. Call 278-3809 for an asbestos pamphlet.
  • Biological Waste - hire a contractor to dispose of properly

  • Medicine/Drugs - call your local hospital or walk-in clinic.
  • Motor Oil - call Public Works at 561-8100 for disposal options.

  • Smoke Detectors - send back to the manufacturer.
  • Tires - Dispose of by purchasing a bulky waste permit, two tires maximum per permit. You may also dispose of tires by contacting your local tire retailer for recycling and less expensive alternatives.
