Street Flooding

The underground storm drainage system is designed to accommodate a 10-year storm (a storm of such duration and intensity that, statistically, it would probably occur once every 10 years).  However, such a storm could possibly occur more often.

When the system is pushed to or beyond its capacity, there may be temporary flooding, especially in lower areas. Once the intensity of the storm has subsided, these areas will drain.

Do not drive through flooded areas. You run the risk of stalling your vehicle and becoming stranded.  If you observe unusual or sustained flooding, please contact the Department of Public Works at 561-8100.

Residents can help by keeping catch basins in front of their properties clear, and also by removing vegetation growing in the gutter which creates a damming effect; leading to basement flooding and pumping.
