Dog
Licenses
If your
dog is six months or older, state law requires that you obtain a license
in the town where you reside. Licensing renewal time is the month of June,
but you can license your dog at any time throughout the year. When you
come for your first license, you must bring the rabies vaccination certificate
issued by your veterinarian. The metal tag is not an acceptable proof
of vaccination. The certificate will usually indicate whether the dog
has been spayed or neutered, but if not, you'll need to present a separate
certificate issued by your veterinarian.
If your
dog was licensed in West Hartford last year, you'll receive a postcard
renewal reminder at the end of May. On the card you'll see a date above
your name which indicates the rabies expiration date in the Town Clerk's
records. If the date has passed, an updated certificate will need to be
obtained before a new license will be issued. Current fees are $8.00 for
spayed and neutered dogs, and $19.00 for others.
Per town
ordinance, only two dogs are allowed per household. It is not necessary
to bring your pet to the Town Clerk's Office when obtaining a dog license.
You may reach the Town Clerk's office at (860) 561-7430.
