West Hartford rated #1 Town in Greater Hartford: Hartford Magazine’s June 2013 issue ranked towns in the Greater Hartford region to determine the top town and West Hartford came out #1 overall, #1 in the large town category, #1 Best for Families, #1 Schools, #1 Best for Seniors, #1 Most Affluent, and #1 Most Educated. In addition, West Hartford came out second for Young & Hip, Best City Living, Leisure Life and Fastest Growing.
Hartford Magazine arrived at their rankings using a number of sources, including the schools, town profiles compiled by Connecticut Economic Resource Center, Connecticut State Department of Education, Connecticut Secretary of the State, and Nielson Pop-Facts 2013.
Celebrate West Hartford! June 8 & 9: This weekend is the town’s signature event Celebrate West Hartford!, a two-day festival spotlighting our award-winning school bands, top-notch professional entertainment, a huge food court, games and activities, carnival rides and a juried arts and crafts show featuring the original works of 175 master artists and crafters. The annual 5K road race will take place on Sunday. The event, held rain or shine, runs Saturday 10 AM-6 PM and Sunday 12-6 PM. Admission is free. Visit www.celebratewesthartford.com
Celebrate West Hartford was voted “Best 2013 Annual Event” in Hartford Magazine’s “Best of Hartford” readers’ poll. This award-winning regional festival attracts 30,000 visitors.
Neighborhood street reconstruction underway: Five streets are receiving a top to bottom reconstruction as part of the Town’s Neighborhood Street Reconstruction Project. These roads will get new granite curbing, concrete driveway aprons, concrete sidewalk repairs, a new road base and paving. They are Paxton Road, the cul-de-sac at the end of Ridgebrook Drive, Fennway Street, Arnoldale Road and Warrenton Avenue. Work should be completed by the end of June, weather permitting.

37th Annual West Hartford Summer Arts Festival: This co-sponsored program with West Hartford Public Schools and the Department of Human and Leisure Services has been a tremendous opportunity over the years for high school and college age young adults looking to hone their drama skills. This year’s production of Guys and Dolls will be held July 25-27 at Hall High School. Tickets are now available from Elmwood Community Center. Call 860-561-8160 or stop by 1106 New Britain Avenue.
June is dog license month: The Town Clerk’s Office mailed over 3,000 postcard reminders, urging dog owners to renew their pet’s license during the month of June. According to state law, all dogs over 6 months of age must be registered and receive a dog tag annually. The numbered tag serves as identification for any pet that may wander away from home. The annual cost for dog licenses is $19 for unaltered animals and $8 for neutered or spayed animals. Dogs must be vaccinated against rabies and a rabies certificate must be presented.
