Profile
on West Hartford
West
Hartford is located in Central Connecticut adjacent to and west
of the City of Hartford, the state capital. Immediate neighboring
towns are Bloomfield, Newington, Farmington and Avon. West Hartford
is approximately 100 miles southwest of Boston and 100 miles
northeast of New York City. Direct access to Interstate 84 (east
/ west) is available with Interstate 91 (north / south) just
a few miles east.
The
Town encompasses 22.2 square miles and has a population of 61,046
(2000 Census). West Hartford is a residential suburb of the Hartford
metropolitan area. The Town encompasses a full range of quality
housing from starter homes to luxury estates. West Hartford boasts
a strong retail and service business sector.
There
is a wealth of shopping opportunities, from neighborhood stores
to regional shopping centers including the renowned West Hartford
Center and Westfarms Mall. Additionally, West Hartford has well-established
manufacturing companies that employ a highly skilled labor force.
Although well developed, West Hartford has commercial and industrial
land available, in particular in the southeast section of town.
The
West Hartford school system has been recognized for years as
one of the best in the state. The Town has earned a reputation
of excellence for its many recreational opportunities and provides
a comprehensive range of municipal services. We welcome your

West Hartford
town government is noted for its quality services and customer responsiveness.
Year after year, West Hartford receives the coveted AAA bond rating
from Moody's Investor Service and Standard and Poor, two major bond-rating
agencies. The triple A rating is the highest rating given by the
agencies and is based on the town's strength of management and conservative
financial practices.
West Hartford
has a lot to be proud of. Connecticut Magazine ranked West
Hartford #1 for its public schools and #2 overall among all the
cities and towns in Connecticut for its population class of 50,000+.
Hennen's American Public Library rating index put West Hartford's
public library first in Connecticut among libraries serving populations
of 50,000 to 99,999 and 17th overall in the nation, placing it in
the top 97th percentile of all towns in the country with similar
population! The town’s annual town calendar receives the top award
in its population class (over 50,000) in the City and Town Annual
Report Contest sponsored by the University of Connecticut’s Institute
of Public Service. |
