Town of West Hartford’s Affirmative Action Policy Statement

The Town of West Hartford recognizes that our continued success as a service organization depends largely on the collective strengths of our employees. We understand that employing productive workers in a labor market characterized by demographic diversity requires an unwavering commitment to Equal Employment Opportunity and Affirmative Action. Accordingly, it is the Town’s policy to recruit, reward and advance qualified individuals without regard to their race, color, religion, national origin, sex, age, sexual orientation, marital status, citizenship, veterans status, or disability.

The Town’s commitment to the principles of Affirmative Action and Equal Employment Opportunity is reflected in all of our policies and procedures - from recruitment and hiring to training, compensation, benefits, transfers and promotion. This commitment is based on sound management and business practice, as well as legal requirements.

As an organization, we are committed to achieve the full and fair participation of women and minorities in contract and employment opportunity. We expect each manager and employee to be an active partner in this effort by supporting in word and deed, the spirit and principles of EEO and affirmative action. Further, we expect that these values will govern the relationships we establish with customers, vendors, and others with whom we do business.

In order to ensure that our goals for EEO may be achieved, we have established various levels of responsibility to both direct and oversee our affirmative action efforts. Our designated Affirmative Action Officer is the acting director of Employee Services Patricia Morowsky. This individual is responsible for implementation and monitoring of the affirmative action program. Individual managers and supervisors will assist in implementation of the program through their employment decisions. I, as chief executive of this organization accept final responsibility to ensure that equal employment and affirmative action receive management support of our best good-faith efforts to obtain the objectives of this plan.
