General Requirements for the Elderly/Disabled Homeowners Program

Homeowners, 65 years and older, who meet specific guidelines, may be eligible for property tax relief.  Below are the general requirements for the program.  — This is a State Program —

Age Requirement: 65 years of age as of December 31, 2009
Application Period: February 1 - May 16, 2010
Maximum Income Allowed: Single: $32,300 Married: $39,500
Information Needed: Date of Birth and Social Security Numbers for Applicants; Proof of ALL income for 2009 (taxable or not taxable)
Benefit: Works on a sliding scale:
Minimum of $150 off taxes
Maximum of $1,250 off taxes

Elderly Homeowner Program Checklist

The state requires proof of all income. Please submit the following when applying for the Elderly Homeowner Program:

  • A copy of the 1099 form from Social Security
  • A copy of a COMPLETE Income Tax Return for 2009 including ALL schedules
  • If no Income Tax Return was filed, submit copies of ALL 1099 forms
  • Copies of receipts for Rental Income, if applicable W-2 forms, if applicable
  • W-2 forms, if applicable
